B450 Tomahawk Doesn’t Support Ryzen 3600x?

I am now thinking of upgrading to the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard, as the original MSI B450 Tomahawk supposedly doesn’t support the Ryzen 5 3600x (as I have been advised).

Is there really any difference between the two motherboards (besides the word “Max”)?

Would it be a waste of money to upgrade (as I just purchased the original motherboard)?

Please bear with me, as this is my first time building my own PC.

it supports your cpu but you hate to update bios first.

get an usb stick and flash the newest bios to that motherboard.

You should have no problem on the non-Max. You just need to upgrade the BIOS BEFORE you install the 3600X.

The MAX just supports Ryzen 3000 out of the box, nothing else different

Do you have the motherboard with a working CPU already? If so, just update the BIOS.

You have not given us enough information to accurately judge your position.

What parts do you have now? Why do you want to upgrade?

I have been advised to upgrade to the “Max” on the basis that the original motherboard doesn’t support the Ryzen 5 3600x (or any other Ryzen 3000 series CPU), and only the Max supports it straight out of the box.

That’s the only difference between the two motherboards? I was also told that the original Tomahawk motherboard cannot support memory past DDR4 3600MHz, while the “Max” can support RAM well past 4000MHz.

i would not worry about the ram speed if you are looking for that then i would go to the x570 mobo or waite and see the b550 chipset and what it will be
