R5 3600 Upgrade path...

Out of boredom and also planning for the future, I was wondering what pairs best with a 3600. Currently I'm running: 

R5 3600 on a B450 Motherboard 
GTX 1080 
16GB 3200mhz RAM 
I play at 1080p 144hz 

I know that new GPUs will come out, but I've tailored more towards the used market (I bought this 1080 quite recently, because it was about as expensive as a 2060 but had better performance) and I'm sure prices on current gen GPUs (Or if I should upgrade my CPU as well for that matter) will go down in the time that I plan to upgrade.

A 5700XT or 2070S would be an improvement from the 1080, though not a massive one, so something like a 2080S would be a more worthy upgrade.

That being said, definitely wait for Ampere/RDNA2. The 1080 is still a great card.

Yeah, the 1080 is a great card and I'm super happy with my current build, I'm just thinking of in a while's time when something like a 2080S would have gone drastically down in price.

There isn't really a GPU out there that would be bottlenecked by a 3600, so I'd say there's not much point in planning. As it stands today, any card that fits your budget and performance needs will fit that build
