PC Overheating

Hi last christmas I upgraded my pc to a Ryzen 7 3800X, MSI Gaming Edge WIFI Motherboard, and the Corsair H60 AIO water cooler. Just recently I started monitoring my pc's heat, and when idle on the desktop im at temperatures of 68-70 degress celsius, and I dont think thats normal, and during gaming like call of duty modern warfare I get from 71-80 degrees celsius. I dont know if my airflow is the problem or I need to upgrade my AIO cooler but I'm getting nervous.

 

Pc Specs:

Ryzen 7 3800X

MSI Gaming Edge WIFI Motherbaord

RX580 8gb Graphics Card

Corsair rgb 16gb 2666 ram

TT Riing Plus fans

600w EVGA Bronze Power Supply

Corsair H60 AIO Water cooler (its a sing fan but i installed 2 on each side)

WD Black M.2 SSD

Seagate 2tb HDD

NZXT H500 Case

The 3800x is a much higher TPD chip than something like the R7 3700x or R5 3600 so more heat out put is to be expected. I upgrade my R7 1700 to a 3800x as well and saw a good increase in temps. But the H60 is not a great cooler to start off and the H510 is a nit lacking in airflow, but more importantly you need to check your voltages. By default your motherboard may have your voltages cranked (this was the case with mine) and with some tweaking you can lower temps by a lot.

 

I recommend looking in oyur bios and seeing that everything is set to, if need be adjust accordingly. 

 

Voltages:

-          CPU Core Voltage – Manual Mode – 1.2500V (offset mode if you want to get into more fine tuning)

-          CPU SOC Voltage – Manual Mode – VDDSOC 1.1000V

-          1.8V PLL Voltage – 1.8000V

-          1.05V SB Voltage – 1.0500V

 

3rd gen Ryzen performs best under cool temps, so lowering the voltage to 1.2500V is safe and best for long term use. I have improved system stability and overall performance while lowering temps with my R7 3800x following this method. And my CPU can now sustain max boost speed for longer because of the lower temps.

Do you want to stick with a AIO, or try an air/tower cooler instead?

If you go with an AIO, you want to get a 240mm or 280mm radiator cooler.

The H500 can support both 240mm and 280mm at the front.

• EVGA CLC 240 or CLC 280
• Corsair H100i or H115i
• NZXT X53 / X63

 

If you go with an air cooler, IF you don't already, add 2x 120mm/140mm fans to the front to get more cool air coming into the system.

The front of the H500 is pretty restricted, so getting higher quality / static pressure fans is recommended.

A good mid range air cooler will do just fine.
