Disappointed~ AMD RX 580

lincs

Now before I go and single out the RX 580 as being extremely disappointing, I've read around that AMD graphics cards as a whole are having a bit of a rough go. And even in their updates, state that, freezing and hang-ups still occur and they're working on it.

Even at all stock settings, good luck playing any sort of title that requires a little bit of horsepower. I'll be lucky to get anymore than an hour and a half of gaming in, before my screen locks up and or re-starts. Temps are fine (Runs a bit warm I find, but still acceptable. I can play something like Runescape or CS:GO for hours(titles where even an un-tweaked RX580 can still pump a steady 120 fps on all maxed out settings) But I fire up Call of Duty:MW and I can usually expect to get about 3 if not 4 rounds in before the expected screen freeze happens.

Doom Eternal (albeit we are still within the launch month so bugs on their end are totally possible)

Good luck with this one. I'm actually waiting on a new 165hz 1ms gaming monitor to show up today, so I'll update this post when it shows up, but

When I open the game, litterally the first thing to pop up is a window saying that "HDR on AMD graphics cards does not currently work. AMD is working on a solution"

Surprisingly enough, with this title on Maxed out settings (Minus v-sync  and HDR) I'm pulling about 100 FPS on average. BUT. It's even worse than COD:MW when it comes to freezing up.

After about 30/45 mins...... System freezes then re-boots it's self.

Can we discuss weather AMD shit the bed and I should actually switch to, well.. I'd rather not speak their name. I've been buying AMD cards since.... I've ever started buying graphics cards

Or, maybe my system is bad? You know how stock settings can be. Nothing but problems.

Anyone having the same problems on titles like COD:MW or DOOM Eternal?

Can I ask what resolution you're playing at? Because the RX 580 isn't good for resolutions past 1080p.

A girl who loves to love.

On COD I play at 1920:1080 when I'm playing a bit more slow paced. I play at the same resolution but scale it down to 66% for more fps when playing more fast paced.

Doom, same thing. 1920:1080

[Edit] Playing DOOM Eternal, had to turn Vertical-sync off. Caused the game to crash as soon as I loaded into campaign

I'm at 1440p it does pretty well at older or less demanding.

something isn't right here. whats your CPU?

cod MW has had issues in the past for me but I think that was CPU not GPU issues.

Make sure your on the latest drivers.

Installed the latest driver for GPU before launching DOOM for the first time. (I'll check into BIOS updates again, but I had to update the bios to get my CPU to run stable at 4.1GHz

CPU is Ryzen 5 3400G manually clocked to 4.1GHz and PBO turned off

I would suggest you start by a reset CMOS and load optimized default settings and see if that fix any of the crashing issues...

Ok ok, I did just look at the AMD site under chipset drivers. The most recent update was released 3 days or so after I had to update to keep my system stable.

I'm going to update my chipset, game for a bit and come back with a verdict hopefully. If I crash again, I'll try everything 100% stock settings and sturn off my DOCP profile

I know. I said I my most recent update for my GPU was before I played DOOM. And as for the BIOS (I didn't mention chipset) was updated at the end of March. I had to do that to keep my system stable at 4.1 (My APU is rated 4.2 max boost, but I turned off the boost and tuned it to 4.1, because 4.2 was un stable.)

I figured my system was stable after 9 hours of prime95. But I could be mistaken. I'll report back in with any updates

i remember one night running prime 95 on my FX-8320 for hours on end only to blue screen 30 seconds in the FIRST battlefield map i loaded.

Only time will tell if your settings are stable or not...run mutliple games if you have issues always suspect your overclocks first.

Well I'm back after finally finishing some testing. As it turns out -it's not the RX 580 I'm too blame.

First I just ended up testing my updated chipset driver update. Too see if that was the issue. It helped. I ended up making it an hour and a half on DOOM until my screen locked up. Instead of the original 45 mins or so.

I ended up loading optimized defaults (even disabling my DOCP profile) and when I finally had some time, tried to get some gaming in to test it out.

Well, it went good. I ended up having a 4 hour session without issue.

So the next test, was to see if i could still at least enable my DOCP profile. So I did, and again was able to have another 3 hour session/without issue.

The final test was what sealed it. I Overclocked my RX 580 using MSI Afterburner. Maxed out the power slider, maxed out the voltage slider, set my core clock at 1445 and mem clock to 2220.

Managed to have a successful 5 hour session. No issues...

So as it turns out, I just can't do any sort of overclocking with my MOBO/CPU/PSU combo (might just be my luck of the draw)

Ryzen 5 3400G

ASUS TUF B450-M Plus Gaming MOBO

Corsair TX-M 750 80 plus Bronze PSU

Thanks for helping me get this solved
