So I currently have a i5-6600K paired with a 1070 and I was going to replace my system with a i7 9700k and a 2070 super.

But I have been told that this isn't needed at the mo and I can save money just by upgrading the gpu to the 2070 super.

I am worried about bottlenecking from the cpu though.

I currently use an Asus PG279QE at 1440p

Would I be more advised to change the cpu as well (which would require changing the mobo as well) or could I get away with just changing the gpu as above?

Thanks

I personally think that you'd benefit more from upgrading your CPU first to something like a Ryzen 3600, and then waiting for Nvidia Ampere and upgrading your graphics card then. I'd advise against going Intel as it doesn't make much sense at the moment, since you'd be locking yourself into a dead platform.

Almost all AAA titles released in the last few years won't run optimally with a 4C/4T CPU like your 6600K. The 1070 is still not a bad card though, and with a CPU upgrade I reckon you might get some more performance out of it.

You will get better performance in single threaded and multi threaded but it won't be as much as you would think and the 6600k is still pretty good and won't bottle neck with the 2070 super

Sorry but that's not true. In most AAA titles released in the last 3-5 years that 2070S will be held back massively by a 6600K, overclocked or not.
