1600af would be a good cheap upgrade as its basically a 2600 but at $85, other wise a 3600 if in your budget would be great (double check your board will support it first and update it in need as well)

CPU - I9 10900 | CPU Cooler - Corsair Hydro Series H100x AIO | Motherboard -  Aorus B460 PRO AC | RAM -G.SKILL Ripjaw V series 4x8GB 2666MHZ | Graphics Card - Gigabyte RTX 3070  | Power Supply - Cooler Master 650w  | Storage -  Working on a new Spicy

Operating System - Windows 10 Pro

Bear in mind that the 3600X does not bring in a lot more performance overhead than the 3600 overclocked.

do you think i should just get the 3600 instead?

3600x is 3600 + 200MHz (in the best situation) + stock cooler that isnt as weak but still limited, so I would just get the cheaper 3600

Yes. However this board seems to only have a beta (i.e. dodgy) bios for 3rd gen compatibility that's rather old, so dont be surprised if you encounter bugs. You wont benefit from optimizations released by AMD over time either

3600x if u can find one under 200, which u usually can near me. People will say 3600 but the x has a higher factory clock speed and better cooler and will usually oc better so the extra 20 or 30 is worth it to me.

There are three ways to see it :

  1. You are budget oriented ==> 3600
  2. You want to overclock and/or to get the best performance/price ratio ==> 3600
  3. You just want the best performance and are ready to put up with the higher TDP of the 3600X ==> 3600X

yes im going for r5 3600 because my motherboard isnt that good at running it anyways so im gonna save some money and upgrade my motherboard

Its my understanding The higher tdp is exclusively the result of the 3600x coming with a beefier cpu cooler. The cpu’s themselves are the same In terms of power consumption. The 3600x is just a binned 3600 with a higher factory clock speed.

TDP should have nothing to do with the cooler a CPU ships with. The cooler has to be suited to the TDP of the CPU, not the other way around.

The TDP is likely to be higher due to the higher stock clocks. IMO there must also be a few power tweaks AMD brings to 3600Xs that the 3600s lack in terms of maximum power draw. But that's just me supposing that.

Misleading TDP ratings: The only thing that makes the R5 3600 a 65 watt TDP part, is the 65 watt cooler, while the 3600X is a 95 watt TDP part because it comes with a 95 watt cooler. The CPUs themselves are otherwise identical.

https://www.techspot.com/article/1880-ryzen-3600x-vs-3600/

I think I've seen other reviews say the same thing. AMD for some weird reason seems to include the stock CPU cooler when accounting for TDP, so this suggests the 3600x itself does have the same TDP as the 3600.

Manufacturers TDP ratings seem to be something to take with a grain of salt. The The I9 9900k is listed as 95W but in real life draws way more power than other processors with similar TDP.

The 3600x is a 3600 with a better cooler and a higher base clock.  The 3600x is not a binned 3600.

When you are buying a 3600x over a 3600, you are purchasing a better cooler and the “x”.  If you are going to replace the cooler and never use it, you are purchasing an “x”.

The stock cooler on the 3600 is horrible. If your gonna go that route buy a aftermarket cooler like cm 212 or arctic freezer

I have a 3600x with the 3900x cooler on it in my other pc and it still gets to 72° and that cooler is way bigger then the stock 3600
