Now or wait?

Hey gang, first time poster here.  I have 3 systems in my home that are all used for gaming (we don't share lol).  My primary system is running a 1080 ti and I'm pretty happy with it.  My oldests system got my handmedown 1080 and he runs VR with that and games full time.  My youngest was cursed with the oldest gpu in the house which is a 2gb 660 which performs really badly even playing CSGO.

 

I've been considering rotating the cards down, giving my oldest my 1080 ti, and getting a 2080 ti for myself.  This said, I'm hearing there is a new card on the horizon.  Even if there is, is it realistic to think they would be available this year?  2080 TIs have jumped in price over the last month by over $100 i'm seeing, usually when new product is coming, prices drop.  What are your thoughts?

I honestly think the RTX series overall is poor value while the 2080Ti does deliver, moving from a 1080Ti makes very little sense. I owned the 980Ti and got the 1080Ti as it was a sizable performance upgrade and pricing was not as bad as it is now. But the performance gains for money spent is not very good at this time.

 

This is why I skipped the RTX gen entirely, the only GPU that makes sense to me is the RX5600XT & 5700XT (if buying new), but the 1080Ti is still better. 

 

I would wait for Nvidia to launch their newest cards, you already have a 1080Ti so you can wait.

That is my general thought as well, but I've got a frustrated little guy with that 660 slowing him down haha.  I though the 2080 TIs were pushing 40% more performance on average?

I think on average it's more like 25%.

 

Consider a GPU upgrade for just that system?  Like I said the RX 5700XT is good value.

 

When the 2080 launched it was the same as the 1080Ti, now replaced by the 2070 Super.

Think I might wait on a big purchase.  Looking at the 1650 or 1660 for him now.  All he's playing is fortnite and roblox.

You know you can get like used a rx570 or something for very cheap and just upgrade his card...you don't need to go out and blow 1200$ on a now almost 2 years old flagship card hey!

Yep, so I just picked up a 1660 Super for him on sale (6gb).  I'm going to stay put with my 1080 ti for myself, and when the new 3 series are available I'll jump on one of those.  Appreciate the insight folks.

Sell an off warranty GTX 1080Ti for $500 and buy new RX 5700 XT to get tiny less performance and $150 more money. Profit!

I'd personally still keep the 1080 Ti.

1080 TI will remain, and then either switched to my sons system, and sell his to help with cost of new 3 series, or sell it directly for.  Either way, that's where I'm aiming haha.

Keep the 1080 ti and 1080 as both are very capable cards.

 

Spend $100 on an RX 570-580 for your youngest and that should hold him over for the summer or next year.

I'd definitely wait. Microsoft has a 12TFLOPS Navi 2 gpu going into their upcoming Series X console, and if they can get that level of gpu into a console you gotta think Navi 2 is going to be quite impressive when released for PC.
