pcie gen4 ready

i'd guess thats just marketing...

afaik none of the nvidia cards are pcie gen4

and as pcie gen4 is physically identical to gen 3 as far as the slot is conserned, you are golden.

gen3 to gen4 is only a bandwith difference

EDIT: just saw you were talking about your CPU there. in that case it is not just marketing! i thought it was your GPU saying gen4 rdy, which would have been.

anyways, you do not have to expect any problems using that card in your system.

I have a r5 3600 and a rtx 2070 super with a b450 mobo should i worry that i have this gpu and cpu running in pcie 3

The motherboad is PCIE 3.0 and the videocard is PCIE 3.0.

Not sure what you are referring to that you think you should 'worry' about?

what would you have to be worried about? i don't see any problem tbh

afaik the nvidia cards aren't pcie 4 anyway

or are we talking about your pcie slot here? so as in "the 3rd slot"?

then it will be good to know what board you got

You are not using a PCIE 4.0 device (your videocard), so what are you worrying about?

The PCIe Standard is backwards compatible, so unless all the parts in the chain are of the same level, it will default to the lowest level of the hardware in the chain. Your CPU says it can run PCIe 4.0, but your motherboard and GPU are PCIe 3.0 only, so your system will run at PCIe 3.0 level.

If your board was PCIe 2.0, GPU is PCIe 3.0 and CPU is PCIe 4.0, your system would run at PCIe 2.0 level.

If it was MoBo: PCIe 4.0, CPU 3.0, GPU 2.0, it would be PCIe 2.0 level.

If it was Mobo: PCIe 4.0, GPU 4.0, and CPU 3.0, you'd be working at 3.0 level.

The only worry you really have is whether or not you spent money on a feature/performance you can't use. CPU is usually the only place you want that headroom, though.

TL;DR: You should  be fine.

It's not 'just marketing'. You just can't buy the CPU alone to get PCIe 4.0 speeds in your system.

i think you misunderstood me

what i meant is that no current nvidia gpu is able to take any advantage of pcie gen4 and given that, a pcie gen 4 ready sticker on a nvidia card just means that you can use it in gen4 boards.

edit: hold on, he was talking about his cpu ... sorry, got that mixed up
