Should I cancel my order and wait for 10700k?

I've ordered a i7 9700k but it hasn't been dispatched yet Due to the cooler I ordered with it being out of stock. I'm debating whether to cancel my order and wait for the 10700k or just stick with the 9700k. What do you think?

I would recommend canceling the order and waiting for the 10th gen Intel Core i7 10700K since there are expected to be significant performance benefits over previous generation.

Yeah I'd cancel the order and go for a 3700X or wait for Comet Lake.

AMD Ryzen desktop CPUs (upto 3rd gen) are usually better than Intel's current generation of Core desktop CPUs in terms of multi-threaded workloads, although Intel holds the advantage in single-threaded workloads as of now. I think that once 4th gen Ryzen is released the story is going to change to being better single-threader workloads as I have seen from the mobile CPU benchmarks.

Summary:    Return the 9700K for sure and wait until 10th gen desktop chips are released if you are running gaming workloads or working with AI. Otherwise, you could build a Ryzen system now with a Ryzen 7 3700X or Ryzen 7 3800X which would be of better value in terms of cost to performance at the moment.

The 4th generation of Ryzen desktop CPUs should give better performance in single-threaded workloads as well to be equivalent to or even better than their Intel desktop series counterparts and depending on the game the performance difference is not that notable, although for workloads involving AI (Artificial Intelligence) Intel 10th generation would be a significantly better choice. If you need to build a computer now, go for the Ryzen 3700X or 3800X.

I only use my system for gaming so that's why i ordered a 9700k but i think the new 10th gen may be better. Just not sure when it will be out.

The 10th generation Intel processors will be released on April 30, 2020. If you really can't wait until then, choose a Ryzen 7 3700X/3800X.

Dude just buy Ryzen 3000 or Ryzen 4000 lol, AMD is curb stomping intel at the moment in terms of value.

Yeah I was going to get a 2080 super to go with the cpu. Wonder how it would perform with my current 8400 for the time being. I play at 1440p 165hz

I agree but intel is still better for gaming and 165hz 1440p. I'm getting a 2080 super so need a good cpu to go with it.

2080 super isn't going to get you 165fps in many new games at 1440p anyway

@Streetguru, Ryzen 4th generation processors are not available yet, many believe that it will be around October for release, although no official word from AMD to be sure. The Ryzen 4th gen mobile chips are available for laptops. Although, currently the Ryzen 7 3700X or 3800X would be a good price to performance processor.

Your current CPU would be a bottleneck with a RTX 2060/2080, get an Intel Core i7 10700K when they are available or Ryzen 7 3700X/3800X. The only bad decision from a value standpoint as of now would be to get an Intel 9th gen processor.

There's only a minor difference for the CPUs

the best value GPUs right now are the RX 5700 xt, and 2070 super, not sure the 2080 super is really worth it overall.

I'd also just go for one of the 1080p 144hz IPS displays that just  came out, the 1ms ones, or a 1440p ultra wide, so it's actually unique.

as a 24" 1080p display, and a 1440p 27" display, look fairly similar. 90ppi vs 108 ppi

I upgraded from 1080p to 1440p and tbh the performance hit isn't really worth it.

I turn games back to 1080p for 144fps; with image sharpening on full, it doesn't look terrible on a 1440p native display
