Far Cry 5 and Odyssey High CPU Temps

I'm using an i7-9700K with MSI Z390 ACE + MSI RTX2060S Gaming X. I have no problems in CPU temps when I played PUBG, GTA5 or Ghost Recon Wildlands. 

 

However, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Far Cry 5 is a different story entirely. It's whenever I play these games at least 5-10 minutes, my CPU temps would rocket up as high as 90C. I use a Corsair H100i Platinum Cooler.

 

May I know how I can fix this issue? Or is there any way whatsoever, to disable AVX that's draining my hardware resources dry? 

 

And can I have a list of games that uses AVX which can fry hardware?

The delay would likely be caused by the thermal capacity of the water. I am guessing your fans are not ramping up to dissipate that extra heat load. Some games are more demanding on the CPU.

Have you tried a cpu stress test? I guess it will show pretty much the same result.

 

So, check those fan RPMs, they should be at around 1600 RPM.

Also are they exhausting out the top or have you mounted the radiator as intake, in which case you need to check your exhaust fans as well, if you don't have enough, the heat will be trapped. I am assuming this happens at stock clocks and voltages.

AS for AVX, some motherboards allow you to disable that feature set but I see no point in crippling a perfectly fine CPU.

Cinebench gave my 72C maximum.

Prime95 ended at 70 for a few minutes then BOOM, went as dangerous as 81C, some cores 90C+.

CPU-Z's max is also 72C.

The fans themselves  are indeed around 1600RPM


I have 2 fans at the front of my case, and one at the rear. The AIO is mounted on top. 

 

I never had this hot CPU issue with my previous i7-9700 (non-K), and I didn't overclock.

I got higher power consumption in AC:O than I did running stress tests so now AC:O is my stress test.

Unlike most bench tests it is hitting the CPU and GPU at the same time so the heat build up its tremendous.

 

I can't play the game at 4k not because of low frame rate(over 60) but because my EVGA XC 2080 ti along with my Noctua NH-D15 are so loud together that is sounds like a plane taking off. By contrast RDR 2 is very quiet.

 

It is also the only game that I am bottlenecked at 1440p even with my 5ghz CPU so my 2080 ti can only run full out at 4k.

 

Fortunately I have two gaming computers so I played the game at 3440 X 1440 with a EVGA FTW3 Ultra that has three fans instead of two. 

 

I still keep AC:O on both computers just for testing.

 

I did play Far Cry 5 after AC:O but I did it on my ultra wide setup so things did not get out of control.

 

The temps in and around my cases can change a lot depending where they are.

When they are under tables in bedrooms they are the hottest and reusing the hot air around the case can heat soak it. On top of the table the temps dramatically lower and in the living room that has air currants(drafts) my GPUs run 5c cooler.

 

Easy to test. Get a floor fan and point it at your computer while playing. If the temps are lower your CPU rad is using hot GPU air. If your temps are the same get a better cooling solution.

I highly suspect it's the hot GPU air, and the machine is on my table.

well AC:O is a dumpster fire in terms of optimization so there's that

Your rad, by being mounted in the exhaust position, is not only using hot GPU air to cool the fins and liquid, but the overall exhaust capability of your case is restricted by the rad's cooling components.

 

Swap them with the intake fans and report results.

You’re right about -0.25, my PC booted up like a snail.  I was using Intel Extreme Tuning Utility To adjust the core voltage. 
 

by 1.3V, can I use XTU, or do I have to adjust it in my BIOS?
