Hi,

What are the best case fans for silent operation?

Thanks

Be quiet Pure Wings or Silent Wings.

I have the silent wings 3 and they are great. But if I recall correctly the pure wings are supposed to be even more silent.

I did look at these fans and the Pure wings were significantly cheaper and I believe the Silent Wings are the quietest.

Thanks for the recommendations

So I double checked, the Pure Wings are quieter at full speed but are also a lot less efficient.

So you might be right. The SW might be more quieter than the PW while drawing the same amount of air.

It kind of depends on your case and what fans you need. If you want dead silent fans, I'd recommend Noctua's P12 900 RPM Redux fans (12 dBa and 63m3/h, static pressure 1.21 mm h2o). More expensive than be quiet though but better static pressure, which sometimes is important because of restrictions on the intake (dust filter, only small gaps for air coming in). They are also offering a 140 mm version if your case can fit it.

These fans seem better than what be quiet has and is cheaper than the Silent Wings 3 for me in the UK. Thanks for the recommendation

Noctua's P12 900 RPM Redux fans (12 dBa and 63m3/h, static pressure 1.21 mm h2o)
Silent Wings (15.5 dBa, 101.09m3/h ,static pressure 1.08 mm h2o)

So, for a case fan, I'd go with the Silent which probably draw more air at the same noise level. But, it is hard to compare unfortunatly. I am wondering how much air is beeing pulled by the SW while being 12dBa loud.

Honestly I couldn't tell you but my case has an option for 2 fans in front of the hard drive cage to push air onto the expansions cards. The Silent Wings 3 fans I had in there for a couple of weeks now used to make a weird humming sound. when moving them away from the hard drives the noise went away. So I've tried with dozens of different fans (I have been building computers for a long time now). The P12 fans were the only ones at that noise level that did not make that odd sound (same was true for the more expensive F12 fans at 7V). In addition my GPU now runs 2C lower (used to stay at 72C with default fan profile, now will not go above 70C).

What case, cooler, and fans are you using? Load temps and rpm?

The case is https://www.cclonline.com/product/103503/CIT1016/Cases/CIT-1016-Gloss-Black/Silver-Micro-ATX-Case/CAS0769/ (it's not the exact case as I cannot find any information online about the case but the internal layout looks identical the only difference being the front panel.)

The cooler is https://www.arctic.ac/uk_en/alpine-12.html

The case fans are the ones that came included with the case which are now starting to get loud hence why I am looking to replace them.

What software do you recommend I use to stress the CPU to obtain load temps?

Do you know what fan sizes and mounts are available in the case? Have you tried lowering fan speeds?

I personally use OCCT. https://www.ocbase.com/

I believe the case has two 120mm mounts. I have not tried lowering the fan speeds. I will run OCCT later and post the results.

Can you check and make sure? The screw holes for 120mm fans should be 105mm apart.
