RM550X 550 watt enought for ryzen 7 3700x + 2080 super?

tony01

Is rm550x 80 plus gold enough to power this system?

ryzen 7 3700x + 2080 super

Other system spechs: ballistix 16gb ram , x570tuf, noctua dh-15, NO RGB, 7 fans

I read that some users are going for 700-800 watt psu, while others says that it's fine 550 watt.

Doing some maths: cpu+gpu peaks at 400 watt usage, so there are 150 watts spare for the rest of the system

thanks!

In theory yes it should work, but boost wattages could be restricted. Personally I’d advise against it if you can get another power supply, but if it what you have from a previous system, don’t sweat it.

When the cpu or gpu boost up, they usually increase the amount of electricity they use.

cpu+gpu of his will  use max 400 watts,150 watts left, it's extremely unlikely that  gpu or cpu boost could cause any kind of issues.

They still won't break 350W for the CpU and GPU

Asus TuF X570 is the best value board with that chipaet. Solid BIOS, good VRNs and affordable

@tony01 For gaming ? Yes, 400W are enough, 550W are plenty. For rendering or smth like that ? 550W should be still enough but most PSUs would be noisy under full load.

It's still enough. Even if maxed, the whole system won't pull more than 400W
