Hi.

So I am downgrading a PC from the i3 8100 to the G4400.

They are both of the same socket (I hope!).

After putting the G4400 into the Mobo, applying new paste, making sure everything is correct, the PC won't start.

The fan will turn for a split second, but will die.

Any advice?

Thanks so much

I think that the g4400 is for an older chipset so it wont work

gaming system: Intel core I9 12900ks / biostar Z690A valkyrie / 4x8gb corsair Vengeance @3333Mhz ram / RX 7900XTX pulse gpu / Thermalright peerless assassin 140 /Coolermaster Qube 500 case / Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 12 1500w power supply

laptop: Dell xps 9510, 3.5k OLED, i7 11800h, rtx 3050 ti, 2x16gb DDR4 @ 3200Mhz, 1TB main drive, 2TB add in ssd

Even though they are both LGA 1151, Intel should have called them LGA 1151 v1 and v2.

v1 = 6th and 7th gen = Skylake and Kaby Lake (your G4400 is Skylake) = 100 and 200 series motherboards (like H110, Z270, etc.)

v2 = 8th and 9th gen = Coffee Lake and Coffee lake (your i3 8100 is Coffee Lake) = 300 series motherboard (like B360, H370, Z390, etc.)

v1 and v2 are not cross-compatible in any way.

So the G4400 would not work in the same motherboard as your i3.

That's very helpful thank you so much.

That being said, F! I guess I can't use it.
