confused please help

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

The 4930k is ivy-e and uses the 2011 socket. The x79 chipset uses lga 2011. z87 uses 1150 which Haswell uses. Different sockets are not interchangeable.

If you're asking for recommendations, it would help to know where you're shopping/located and your budget.

i am really confused between x79 and z87 when im on pc part picker. I want to build a 4th gen haswell computer but can only used 3rd gen processors. the website says i will may have to do a bios flash for certain mobos. i was wondering which mother board would be hassle free and compatible with a 4930k ( sorry if none of this made sense)

The 4930k is Ivy Bridge-E not Haswell. You want a Lga 1150 cpu and a z87 motherboard. Hope that helps.

x79 is a 2011 socket for ivy bridge extreme processors and x87 is LGA 1150 socket for mainstream haswell processors.
