Stock thermal place looks strange

smoknjoe44

I built a new PC with Ryzen 7 2700x and included stock cooler (Wraith Prism).  I noticed a weird noise with the fan, so I had them send me a new one.  The new one has the thermal paste applied in these little dots, which I assume only a machine could do so precisely.  The first one I got had the thermal paste smeared into one layer and not all these dots.  Do you think this is going to affect anything?  I don't have any thermal paste of my own currently.

Nah.

It's fine like this.

Some companies - including Corsair now - pre-apply thermal paste like that, so it can spread out on its own.

Totally normal alright,

Like some have mentioned before me many companies pre apply thermal paste on their heat sinks so you don’t have to deal with yourself questioning:

”Did I put enough or did I not?”

  • 2 months later...

I have got a similar cooler.

Should I directly apply it on the motherboard OR should I apply thermal paste externally?

If it was a problem, do you really think amd would ship it like that?
