Reccomend me a good travel laptop (durable)

Go to solution Solved by dizmo,

Get a MacBook. You don't have to run OS X on if if you don't like it, just use Windows. Apple's hardware as far as laptops go just seems superior.

Except Windows absolutely destroys the battery life on Apple products...

Mostly indoor stuff but occasionally I need to be able to use it outside, but I don't think it'd be much of a problem regardless. It would mostly be used in temp set ups inside large rooms on flimsy tables with large (very large & heavy) machines driving around by themselves.. (They've been known to hit me and the table before BTW)

I'd look very strongly at Lenovo's more business oriented products. T series, X series, etc.

A lot of them have internal carbon roll cages and other features that make them extremely sturdy. There's a reason they're used by most businesses.

I had an X230. Dropped it a few times and it was still perfectly fine. If you're away from a plug you can spec it out and get over 24 hours of battery life.

I've been getting a lot more on the site projects lately and especially with Robotics I'm starting to find that my old laptop Frankensteined together doesn't look professional nor is it cutting it anymore. I'm looking into buying a new laptop to remedy this problem, but I don't keep up to date with them that often, and if I can get away with still being slightly ignorant to it then the better off I'll be. I'm looking for something that is fairly rugged as it'll be pretty much a travel only device and it would be nice if it could maybe take a shot or two. Spec wise I don't need to do anything crazy on it, just IDE's, and at most running light simulations. I'd like to keep it kind of on the cheap side I guess, but I don't really have a set budget either(Nothing to crazy though.. maybe around 750-800 or less?), so I'm kind of open on that. (Keep in mind I want this for programming not gaming, so no stupid lights & stuff).

Feel free to tell me I'm crazy and that I need to change something if it's impossible and I might just listen! Thanks for any help in advance.

Thanks, I've been looking at quite a few different ones and this seems pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I've seen some of the think pad stuff before, but just thought they were old/really expensive or something.

No prob, they make some solid stuff. I hated the trackpad on the x230 but it seems they've put a better one on the x240.

If you go with one that has an ultrabay you can (usually) add a graphics card later on, should your workload require it. Nice "future proofing" feature.
