What setting to use?

I'm having trouble finding a balance between performance and quality in the games I play. Currently I'm starting AC Origins, and my PC can run it at ultra from 30-40 fps, but when I move it down to medium, it continues to run around 30-40 fps... my specs are:

Ryzen 5 2600X

RX 580

32gb 3200mt/s (although its actually running at 2133 since it crashes when I use XMP)

600Watt PSU at 80+ gold

MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon

Well Ryzen loves dual channel memory, I would try manually adjusting the memory frequency and see if that yields better results. You likely need a bios update as with Ryzen aging the newer Bios supports a lot of improvements and helps a ton with stability.

 

So start by updating your Bios to the latest stable version.

Set your RAM to its rated speed. (IE set a 3200MHz kit to 3200MHz)

Manually adjust DRAM Voltage to 1.3500V

 

I'd be surprised if this did not boost your performance.

I have the MSI BIOS released in November 2019, which I believe is the latest one. That's when my RAM stopped being able to run at 3200 speed. It was around that time that I also added a second kit of 16gb. All 4 slots are filled.

As for the RAM OC, to change the voltage do I need to manually set the clock and then manually set the voltage? Or can I click the XMP profile and still change the voltage manually?

AC:O is strange.

The difference between me playing at 4k or 1440p is only about 10 frames.

I just set my Memory speed to 3200, but the option to manually change the voltage from auto to manual is grayed out in BIOS, I literally can't figure out how to change it to manual. I have the latest MSI BIOS, which for B450 is a little stripped down from the old one because it's a bigger file than the original bios. Any advice?

So I set 3200 speed and changed voltage to 1.35 Volts, and then my PC went into a POST fail loop for three tries before it automatically reset to default settings and booted up fine. It's exactly what happens when I tried XMP in the past.

That's not neccessarily the latest Bios, there could be more recent ones since then, the issue could be the second kit of RAM.

Try clocking at lower speeds, it's either an issue with Bios or that you are running 2x dual channel kits of RAM.

So I checked and I do have the current BIOS for my motherboard, and I've actually solved my RAM problem just by removing the second kit of 16gb. It's now running at 3200mhz at 1.24 volts with absolutely no problems. I still want 32gb though, so I'll probably just buy a 2x16gb kit sometime in the future. That way I'll be able to run them at full speed.

Yeah that can often be the issue, Ryzen is a little more memory sensitive than Intel systems, at least in my experience. And putting 2x dual channel kits can cause stability issues. If you have an issue again set your DRAM Voltage to 1.3500V, that is pretty standard practice for RAM.
