Yes. Look at the link I posted. That's power draw with even a cpu like the 3960x @4.3 ghz only pulls ~400w at full load.

Okay, well that's great, that means I can save that $30 difference for something else. To be honest, even though I've set a budget of $2,200 I am trying to get it to as close to $2K as possible. The reason, well I'm planning on buying the ASUS PB238Q display along with the build components so I've gotta factor that price of $320 into the whole budget.

Just some extra info. I don't plan to ever overclock despite the benefits of doing so and so I would only need the 4770.

Hmm, I think would like to keep the Intel Graphics for various reasons. Sorry if I seem fussy but I have some idea of what I do and don't want.

You could go with the 4770 or 1245v3 in that case.

Yeah, I'd go for the 4770. I believe it's better overall. I know some people like to OC but I'm not one of them. One of the members on here (can't remember who but he knows who he is) said that he got the 4770K and kinda wishes he got the 4770 because he doesn't OC at all and so I'm in the same boat as him.

The 1245v3 is better because it's tested to run stable 24/7/366 and whatnot. It is also a bit more expensive though.

Sorry I'm not quite sure what you mean by "24/7/366". I'm guessing you mean it'd run stable all year 'round.

The gpu requires a bit of explanation. Sony Vegas Pro 12 has issues using newer CUDA gpu to accelerate rendering. It works fine with a GTX 560 Ti, see http://blog.whitesites.com/Graphics-Card-for-the-Fastest-Rendering-in-Sony-Vegas-Pro-12__635078797007330625_blog.htm. While none of the online pc component stores carry such an old card, there are a number on eBay which is where I sourced the part shown below.

*Basically, the people behind updating Sony Vegas to keep up with newer gpus are lazy.

Guys, do you think NVIDIA's upcoming Maxwell GTX 800 series will be better supported? Apparently they're supposed to be quite significantly better.

The point is that the newer the tech, the less support there is.

No way of knowing.

One option is a very basic gpu capable of only supporting the gui and using the cpu to do rendering - an i7-4930K can typically render 1080p video better than 1:1. Once Maxwell is out and users have tested it with Sony Vegas a decision on which gpu would be most appropriate could be made.

Hmm...well Sony should really step up their game and update the software to support the newer tech. I did notice something though, Sony has come out with Sony Vegas Movie Studio 13. My guess is that maybe Sony is going to release Sony Vegas Pro 13 and you may find that the GTX 700 and 800 series will be supported in the new release. This may be why they haven't bothered to update the software to support the newer GTX 700 series.

Well if I did that there would be hardly any point in me getting a GPU since my main utilisation for it would be working with SVP. But if you look at the post above you'll see what I've said about SVP. I think we just have to wait.

Movie Studio is an entry level product. From what I've read it suffers from the same issues. At a guess it uses the same code base for rendering.

Yeah, but I was more getting to the point that if Sony has already released Sony Move Studio 13, they may be about to release Sony Vegas Pro 13 which could be updated to support the newer cards.

Just out of curiosity, would it be worthwhile for me to go with an AMD GPU. I know for a fact that the new R series can't GPU accelerate AVCHD exports but I don't actually export to that even though that that's the codec used with my Canon HF G10 HD video camera. I actually export using the regular main concept MP4 which I believe SVP 12 GPU accelerates anyway. I'll have to look more into this to make sure but I am pretty certain it does.
