Hi guys, how y'all doin'?

Okay a bit more serious now. Disregarding my planned build in my sig below, I'm interested in what sort of build you would recommend for a video editor like myself? The reason I'm asking this is because you guys may suggest something I haven't even thought of.

Now to help you out I will give you all a bit more detail into what I actually do with my current 7-year old computer so that you can recommend accordingly.

The number one thing I do on my PC is video editing. These edits are mostly with 1080p video so they require a lot of computing horse power, so to speak, and so I would be looking for components that are going to get the job done, from editing in the timeline to rendering a project out to it's final completion, I would definitely need something that was going to get the job done pretty quickly.

I don't just video edit though, I watch some movies, some YouTube Videos and some Rev3 videos so I do like my visual entertainment.

I will note that I'll be driving 3x 1080p displays so these recommendations will need to accommodate this.

To compile these components please use PC Part Picker Australia » http://au.pcpartpicker.com/ «as I'll obviously need the final price to be in AUD.

Now my budget I know you'll ask about and this budget is $2.00. Nah just joking (haha).

My real budget is as follows:

• $2,200 (AUD)

If you can get what you think I would need under that budget, that'd be awesome. :D

Thanks in advance for your help guys, tis much appreciated. :D

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Video Editor: Sony Vegas Pro 12

Preferred GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX series

Preferred OS: Windows 8.1

Are you really into it, for example, do you need a Quadro? Or can you get by with a Radeon or GForce card? Also what video editing program do you use?

Ah, I'm pretty into it, it's just a hobby though so an NVIDIA GeForce card is preferred because I'm using Sony Vegas Pro.

That's an interesting build. I wouldn't thought of some of that stuff. I'm not sure about liquid cooling though, is it hard to do, is there the potential to fizzle out your system with water leakage or something?

It's not full liquid cooling, it's an AIO. It comes pre-assembled and the H100i has one of the easiest installation methods. I am pretty sure that they test it to make sure that it doesn't leak. But if you want air cooling only there's the Noctua NH-D14, a very good one.

Not to be fussy, but those Noctua fans are pretty damn ugly.

I also think so... If you don't like the looks go for a BeQuiet! one, they're more expensive but still very quiet.

I don't think we have that brand here unfortunately. :(

It's bad.  :(

There are other good coolers, but you can also go for the Corsair AIO.

I'll have to look and see. How much better is water cooling a CPU than air cooling a CPU?

Well, a water cooler will (generally) be a bit cooler than an air cooler. With that said the Noctua cooler I reccomended is also very good and very quiet. It really comes down to how much overcloking you're planning to do and if you have space for the air cooler, air coolers are bigger and can sometimes cause compatability problems with high-profile ram. If you don't mind spending more money for the AIO I'd say go for it, but if you don't like it you can go for air coolers.

P.S.: You can always replace the fans for different fans, they won't be as good but they won't be as ulgly either, you could go for Corsair SP Series fans, there is just one problem, the Noctua cooler uses a special fan that is a 140mm fan with 120mm mounts... I'll see if I can find another cooler.

EDIT: Have a look at the Phanteks PH-TC14PE, the link is the white version but there are different colours available. And it's compatible with your ram.

u dont need a 760w but it was only $1 more than the 520w also was thinking if u decide to do more editing then just family photos u are going to want to fill that thing with drives which use power so u will be covered. u said u were mediocre at tech so im guess your not overclocking so i got the non k version (im pretty into tech and i have never overclocked wish i got a non k) that cooler is probably overkill but it will make sure your system is quiet u can definitely downgrade to maybe like a hyper 212 if u like as for the gpu i chose the 780 as it has enough cuda cores u dont need a 780ti and asus republic of gamers motherboards are really a waste of money they are so over priced so the gigabyte is a much more modest choice and will do anything u want for as long as that system lives.

Edit: i also chose some nice low profile memory only 2 sticks so if u ever need more than 16gb u can fill the other 2 slots with another 16gb kit so u can have a total of 32gb.

It's pretty good, I've decided to lower my budget to around $2,200 because I think $3,000 is quite an excessive amount to spend on a PC Build. Just wondering though, could a GTX 770 or GTX 780 really be fine with a 550W PSU?

Then how come other manufacturers and NVIDIA say that the GTX 770/780 requires at least a 600W PSU?

Psu recommendations on the graphics card's site are heavily inflated in case you use a crappy psu and complain about it. Ignore them.

So even with all the components plus the GPU, I would only need a 550W PSU?

So I'm guessing the Seasonic PSUs aren't considered crappy?

Yes. Look at the link I posted. That's power draw with even a cpu like the 3960x @4.3 ghz only pulls ~400w at full load.
