Things You Liked When You Got Into PC Building but dislike now

When I was planning my first build I for some reason was really into small cases and ITX builds, specifically the Corsair 250D i believe. I ended up with an M-ATX build. 3 years later I'm liking bigger and bigger PCs, not only for looks, but for its pure ease of building an maintenance (Define R6 is great). recently I built a few computers in small cases, oh how much I hate small cases.

See, I'm the complete opposite; the most interesting part of a pc build to me is the packaging, even if I have to DIY something to fit. If I don't have some packaging problem to solve, it's boring. Which is why I lean towards SFF builds and ITX.

Also at the end of the day, it's A E S T H E T I C as well... ??‍♂️

I would like to change mine.

Naming schemes/choices.

Naming schemes/choices.

5 years ago you had 5 things.

The intel i series was better with bigger numbers.

The AMD had FX where bigger numbers were better.

The amd apus were budget choices where bigger numbers were better.

Graphics cards from nvidia had bigger numbers better.

AMD had bigger numbers better & was semi-understandable with the 7000 series going back to the 200 series just starting over a lower number.

Now, there intel is kinda the same.

AMD Is a little tricky with all the different kinds of Ryzen CPUs. Especially with laptops. What’s U? What’s not U? What’s X? What’s not X?

Nvidia, why do you have 3 series of graphics cards? Which one do I need? I don’t know what technologies my software is using. How am I supposed to know which GPU will handle the software the best?

AMD, why are your RX cards worse than your R9 series cards?

Why does ram speed all the sudden matter? Does it actually or does JayZ2 Cent & Linus really think 4 frames at 4K in crisis 9 make life & death?

I honestly don’t know how to pick parts anymore. It was super simple. Better stuff was a bigger number. Now, I couldn’t build a PC to save my life.

I was on board the first 2 generations of ryzen.

Laptops were starting to get desktop grade intel CPU, amd ryzen 1 had no GPU & some motherboards were broken but all laptops would get a normal ryzen CPU. Ryzen 2 was good but had vega graphics in them but the cpu wasn’t $1,000. Then NVIDIA came out with RTX, confused me and I was like “wtf? Why do I need 2 GPU in my graphics card? Why cant old GPU compute raytracing? Why can’t the raytracing Compute normal graphics?”

Turns out RTX was a scam & there’s the 1660 series and RTX & I’m just so lost. I have no idea what’s going on.

I’d Tag an LTT staff but I don’t know if you made a video on it or not. I haven’t been keeping up with the channel. Daily videos about random hardware got boring to me really quickly. It was like a buzz feed Snapchat. “365 wacky computer things for this year. WOAHHH!”

RGB, mostly

See I'm all about the RGB still, (See the set up in my profile cover thingy) but I did not realize how much of an absolute pain in the ass wiring RGB can be.

Fan controllers

My current case has a built in fan controller (sort of) with the case but that only worked with the original Rosewill hub thingy, and now its just useless.

Well as the title says, what are some things you liked before you built your first pc or got really into PCs that you can't stand or definitely aren't a fan of now? Whether it be certain peripherals, case designs, etc...

So my big thing when my friend and I were getting started on building my PC I said I wanted even with my ugly parts

The ThermalTake P5

I built with this case in PC Building Simulator and I realized how much I would not have liked this case.

I used to not care at all about my cable management, I cringe thinking about how bad my first build was - the cpu's heatsink fan got stuck once on a stray cable
