Need more ethernet Ports

Right here's my issue, i've run out of Ethernet ports on my Router, all 4 are being used.

 

Would it be possible just to add a switch to the network to add more ports?

 

Would i run into any configuration issues running things like Printers, and a NAS.

 

When getting a switch are there any features i should be looking at to get?

All you need is an unmanaged switch, which if you look on amazon, go to best buy ect you can find them easy and cheap. It won't really change anything or cause any configuration issues. Most is IP address may change for your Printer and NAS, but it will still be in the 192.168.1.x ranges.

Features just depends on what you may want. A standard unmanaged one is fairly barebones. Your main differences will be ports. The amount and speeds. You can find some with SFP ports. Beyond that the switch will automatically manage the routing itself.

Just make sure whatever switch you buy says 10/100/1000mbps and that it says Switch not Hub. Otherwise it'll do exactly what you need.

There are so many to Choose from, all different makes and model numbers.  Anyone have any recommendations?

 

I will pay £20 max which should get me an 8 port one from what i see.

Any gigabit unmanaged switch will do.  I usually use the metal Trendnet ones.  Plug and play.

I think that link is confusing because the first part of the URI indicates 'Ethernet Splitter', which is a thing but those (ethernet splitters) are horrendous.

Good choice, it being smart managed means should you decide to do some more advanced tinkering later on you have some options.

Right i've had this switch through but i cannot seem to access its admin page.

 

I have downloaded the software and run it and it finds the switch, i click admin page and it just takes me to a blank page.

 

I have tried both Firefox and Chrome.

 

Anyone have any ideas?

See my response here. You probably have a different subnet than what the smart switch uses. You'll only be able to access the switch's admin interface by changing the subnet on the client device directly connected via ethernet to the switch.

Ive sorted it.  I rebooted the switch and it immediately changed IP addresses.  I was then able to log into the admin page fine.
