Hey All,

Is there a performance difference with running in either slot 2 or 3 pcie 4.0 over the first slot with a GPU or two.

Ie, on a AORUS EXTREME or a ROG ZENITH II EXTREME motherboard with RTX 2080 ti's

Cheers

I think there is, but you can check that easy from the manual.

I can't find anything on this in the Manuals. It just says install the the slot that supports your card.

they all look to be x16 slots, gotta love the insanely overkill amount of pcie lanes the threadrippers have ?

Does that mean it does not matter which slot they are in?

Looking at the Specifications on the product pages the ASUS board seems to be the most configurable and capable.  Allowing more slots to run in either x16 or by x8.  The AORUS board has two slots running x16 and two running at x8.  You'd have to check the manual to learn more.

PCIe 4 devices running at x8 will have the same bandwidth as PCIe 3 devices running x16.

Hardware Unboxed put up a video about ASUS' latest TRX40 board with more capable VRM power delivery.  It's the Alpha version.

Looking at the AORUS manual it doesn't indicate which slots are which, but the block diagram does give the impression that the top two are x16 and bottom two are x8.

OP indicated that he read the manual.  The answer wasn't in the literature, but in the illustrations.

OK, So let me just make sure I am interpreting the correctly, slot 1 and 3 for the Aorus board are the best and the Asus board won't matter which slot it is in?
