Excessive power consumption

So I am running into an issue where my computer is eating so much power that it will actually flicker my lights that are on the same breaker when my pc is under load. In theory a single 15 amp 110v should support 1650 watts and i know my pc isn't running that much. Any thoughts?

Maybe its about the stability of your powerline because a pc consumes continuous power under full load.

Sounds like your circuit itself is overloaded, I would check to see what areas are connected to that same breaker and make sure something like a space heater or device with a high load is not on the same circuit as the PC.

If it is the whole circuit being overloaded, it is very important to get it resolved as quickly as possible, or stop using the computer.

 

If the house was built in the 70's it may have aluminum wiring, which has burned down a lot of houses when overloaded as the wires get hot and catch fire. Copper can do the same, just much less likely... still definitely want to get it taken care of ASAP.

energy in > energy out. can't pull billion watts of power without burning the whole house.

Residentail breakers support 80% continous load from what I have read. At 120vots at 15 amps you get a max of 1800 watts, with a continous load of 1440 watts. 

 

My advice is to figure out what all is on the cirucit. Also, high draw appliances can cause your lights to dim. Also verify this only happens on that circuit. The reason I suggest this is a few months ago we found that our hookup to the electrical grid was loose, that can cause all sorts of issue. We called the power company and they fixed it, our power has been much more stable and I get a lot less surges as a result. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
