If I have 16gb ddr3 is it worth upgrading to ddr4? Is there any difference?

Depends on what you're doing?

 

Generally the ram upgrade just comes with when you will change to a newer motherboard/cpu- especially for standard consumers

I can say it's definitely worth it because you will have to use it if you upgrade to a modern platform.

Motherboards that can do DDR3 can not do DDR4, and Motherboards that can do DDR4, can not do DDR3.

Only do that along with a CPU and motherboard upgrade, because different DDR generations are not compatible with each other. There are some exceptions of the same CPU working with different versions on different boards or even the same boards, which comes with both RAM slots for 2 types of memory, but that's not worth the money.

Nothing wrong getting DDR3 running 2000mhz Cas 9. You can still get good use from DDR3 if you have decent memory and board.

Yeah, I was gonna point this out because, from TS's initial post, it seems that he's under the impression that he'd just wanna swap out his DDR3 for DDR4. 

 

To TS, 16GB is usually sufficient for most desktop tasks including gaming....
