The uplay-launcher delivered by Epic is flawed (what a surprise...). You may try to reinstall uplay from the Uplay site.

You need to go to the Uplay application, go to the Assassin's Creed Syndicate tab and click on the option below the download button labelled "Locate installed game" Follow the process as directed. This will verify the game files location on your computer for Uplay, and then you may launch the game from Epic Games launcher.

There have been problems this week launching Uplay and the Epic launchers, even if you don't take advantage of the free offer of AC:Syndicate.

This may be to do with most companies pulling support from Geforce Now.  Since neither Ubisoft nor Epic have explained what could be causing their connection problems, it could be both applications had integrations for "supported games" since requiring removal.
