Gtx 1060 6gb or Rtx 2070 super 8gb

JacobAltman

So i mainly do 1080p gaming, no 1440p or 4k, i have a i9-9900k cpu and i currently have a MSI GTX 1060 6gb gaming x and im looking to upgrade to an RTX 2070 Super. Would it be dumb to upgrade to a 2070 super?

Makes sense if you have a high refresh monitor but no if you have only 60hz one

I have 2 165hz monitors, i actually also got the 1060 for free which right now it costs $600 and some dollars. The 1060 6gb: core clock is 1506MHZ and boost clock is 1809MHZ

The RTX 2070 super that i want is $525 its core clock is 1605MHZ and boost clock is 1770 MHZ, i will be using the ray tracing feature, but anywhere ive seen like online say its not worth it. I do care about frames

The prices of brand new cards of old lineup are completely unreliable.  Those are probably some leftover that didn't sell and that won't sell at those prices.  Like saying that the GTX 780 TI is worth 600 $ cause it's that price on newegg.ca ... more likely worth 100 max at that point ... What people should have in mind when buying or selling an old gpu is not the price it's worth right now brand new but the price of comparable cards in performance from the newest lineup or in the used market.

The 2070 super upgrade looks good and I would totally do it if I were you.  You will certainly notice a big jump in fps.
