tbf unlocking cpu features with firmware tricks wouldn't be unheard of - phenoms were notorious for having disabled "good" cores you could reactivate with a bios hack

and by bios hack you meant a setting, considering the motherboard vendors outright implemented the feature on their boards 9_9
