Hello,

This is my first time designing and building a PC. I was wondering if there we any suggestions or things I should do. I'm trying to build a decent gaming rig for under $500 USD. Thanks.

The PC:
- AMD Ryzen 5 2600x (stock cooler okay?)
- Gigabyte B450 AORUS M (bundled with CPU)

- G.Skill Ripjaw V 16GB (2 x 8 ) DDR4-3200

- Samsung 970 Evo 500gb M.2 SSD

- EVGA BQ 500 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply

- MSI Geforce GTX 1070 ti 8gb ARMOUR (I got from a friend)

- Thermaltake core v21 MicroATX mini tower

Current total: $451.93

Anything I should change or experience anyone had with any of these parts? Currently I'm shopping for a new monitor that's fair cheap, any suggestions? Once again, thank you.

if you're ever planning on getting a second GPU in your build it would be best to get a bigger power supply like this - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00COIZTZM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

i dont think for a first build that sli is something to think about, ether sli is some like dead now where days

its of cause optional

edit: and he needs a X470 chipset for sli

and as for the monitor if you're willing to put $140 into a monitor this is a perfect one with 144HZ - https://www.amazon.com/Sceptre-Edge-Less-FreeSync-DisplayPort-C248B-144RN/dp/B07MTMCNLX/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=120HZ+monitor&qid=1581641773&sr=8-3

the stock ryzen 5 cooler is pretty good, i used it for a few weeks myself, quiet and good temps for a small single fan air cooler

First think I would suggest is getting a larger budget.  At the lower end of computer budgets every $20 - $50 makes a significant difference in performance and longevity.  A $500 computer will be okay today, but in a year or two you'll need to upgrade it and a new motherboard, CPU and GPU every two years will cost a lot over 6 years.

If you can save up another $250 you'll get a lot more performance out of your system and you'll get to enjoy it more for longer.

Thanks! Is there anything you suggest that I should upgrade, if my budget was $700? I'll definitely look into it.

i'd only change this. the rest of the build looks solid.

how much are you paying for the cpu+mobo combo? they are usually more expensive than the sum of parts and the b450 aorus isn't a good value board.

Ryzen 5 3600 is a great CPU at a great price and will pair well with your 1070 ti.

I would get a different case and an ATX motherboard.  Those Thermaltake V series cases are quite large and their quality isn't great.  I've built three computers in the V1 and while it's a great idea their materials and design could both use updates and improvements.  I prefer NZXT, Phanteks, and Fractal Design cases.  I've built in several of them and I really like the newest NZXT H series cases, but that's personal preference.

The Samsung 970 Evo is a great NVME drive, but they can be quite expensive I would suggest 1TB M.2 or 2.5" SATA SSD from a brand you trust instead you might be able to get 1TB for the same price as the 970 Evo and you'd only notice the difference in speed on bootup and in benchmarks and even then it's barely noticable.

One final thing I know people are so adamant about buying the cheapest power supply they can from a well known brand, but it's one of the few parts you can keep for several builds.  Buy a mid range fully modular power supply from EVGA, Corsair or other brand you trust.  I'd rather run a powersupply at half its rated power rather than 80 - 99%, but that's clearly personal preference.

I would pay $164.98 for the CPU/Mobo combo, whereas separate it would cost $221.87. There is a different bundle with the same CPU (R5 2690x) and a ASUS prime X470-pro for 189.98, would this be better? Or should I go with something completely different? Thanks!

yeah for $25 extra i'd go for the x470 board.

Thank you on the case review! I saw a lot of meh reviews on Amazon and was kind of worried. Ill definitely look into a new case from on of the brands you suggested!

I realize that the PCU is often reused between builds, I’ll definitely look into upgrading it. Thanks!

It would be $60 more to upgrade to a 1tb ssd, or would it be better to buy a $50 2tb hdd? Or are there certain brands that are generally regarded as trustworthy?
