Any performance differences between 16 vs 32gb RAM for ryzen processors?

Hello guys!

Yesterday a I've read on a website for calculating bottlenecks on your pc, that 16gb of ram are potentially too less and it could hurt my gaming performance.

I have an AMD Ryzen 5 2600x at 4,1GgHz on the MSI x470 Gaming Plus with 2x8gb of G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3200 in dual channel. 

So my question is, will I have any performance improvement when upgrading with with a second kit to 32 gb ram?

bottleneck calculators are utterly useless

 

the only circumstances where having 16GB of ram will hurt performance is when you're using a program that needs more than 16GB. If you're talking about a gaming PC, that is not a realistic scenario. 16GB of ram will be fine for you.

Memory capacity doesn't affect your performance so long as you have enough, that is enough memory that your computer doesn't need to write to page files on your storage. 16GB are enough for pretty much any game.

 

Memory speed, on the other hand, has been shown to affect your performance on ryzen chips in particular. If you can, consider spending a little more for a 3200MHz or better yet a 3600MHz kit rather than going for 32GB when you don't need to.

Memory size got nothing to do with bottleneck.

You upgrade to 32gb if your programs need more than 16gb, otherwise it's useless.

Games are the big ones, but right now it only consumes 10-12gb max.

Its not that hard to push past 16GB you may need to be careful and close things before you start up a game.  I was rarely hitting OVER 32GB just leaving Chrome and two other browsers open right before I upgraded to 64GB but backed back down to 32GB when I changed from the 2950x to a 3900x.  

 

BTW I had stability issues that may have caused a slow memory leak with everything resolved I haven't seen it over ~18-20GB now for just browsers and a game
