ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING - Is it good?

Planning on putting this board in my build, but have heard that it runs pretty hot and that it is a lesser quality board

 

But on the other hand I´ve read that it is a bargain at that pricepoint (https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/cpu_mainboard/asus_rog_strix_b450-f_gaming_review/1)

 

So.. Is this board good for the price (114EUR at my retailer)? Planning on to pair it with a Ryzen 5 2600 (might overclock it in the future) and an RX580 (Asus T8G).

It's very meh, the B450 Gaming Plus (MAX) is significantly better for the same price.

Depends on what part of Europe you're in, prices can double from a good country to a bad one (as far as buying hardware's concerned)

and they can't even measure VRM temperature properly. Seriously I think they just pointed an IR gun to the top of the heatsink and call it a day.

I live in the Czech Republic, and the cheapest price is 114EUR

Can you provide a link? I think that MSI makes the best boards, but I need an Asus board because of Aura Sync

the B450-E and TUF Pro are the best B450 boards from Asus, look for those instead.

What is the difference between these 3 cards? The B450-E is priced at 130EUR, is it worth the upgrade? The TUF is priced at 103EUR, I don´t like the yellow elemts on the board but that isn´t that important.

the strix boards tend to be better quality than the tuf boards i think

Just found the Asus X370 PRO for 98EUR, is it better than the other boards?

It's an older chipset from the first launch of ryzen originally around 2017 so I don't think it's much better tbh (though I'm not 100% on motherboard and chipsets

better VRM thermals, the E and Pro has larger volume and surface area heatsinks on top of a slightly larger VRM which produces less heat than the F. That's better for the lifespan of the components.

thouh it is a good board still though i think the b450 is probably a better bet for future proofing tbh

It is indeed better, but be aware that the BIOS may not work with a 2nd gen CPU without an update. That depends on when the board left the factory.

More SATA ports, less M.2 (tho B450-E's extra M.2 comes at a cost of other connections), faster USB in the rear I/O, less RGB ports, no wireless but has SLI support. They are equal overall but different

Does not need any BIOS update. That is only needed for older boards or for a newer CPU. But a Ryzen 5 2600 and B450 is a match

it may or may not. If the board came out in the later production runs it will carry BIOS new enough to support 2nd gen and it will boot up. If the board is produced earlier and left unchecked in a warehouse then it won't.

Is there a way to know if it will run with the 2nd gen processor via the reatilers site? Product number for example.

nope, they dont provide such service. Not like it's a factory error by any means.

I still prefer the older board because it's still a better performing one, extra points for being cheaper. I don't care about RGB nor branding though
