HI, new here and i couldnt really find a subforum that fit this, so thought id ask here. for a build im doing, i chose the ryzen 7 3700x with an aorus 2070 super. will a 240hz monitor, specifically the kd25f, be able to run at full 240hz with this setup? just considering my options here, if anyone has any good recommendations for monitors, 144hz or 240hz, please mention them. thanks!

Even the 2080Ti will struggle if it reach  240Hz :)

On what? Ultra? In like, specifically the new COD or something? Or RDR2? Yeah maybe.

If it's a competitive fps at 240Hz 1080p a 2070 Super is gonna slap that easily, especially because hardcore comp people often run medium/low settings, nowhere near ultra. And in most games where you want it at ultra for the eyeball candy, you don't need the full 240fps because it's not a competitive game.

Or you just run DOOM 2016 because that slaps 200fps at ultra easily. It would go higher but it's capped at that.

I would say that the 3700X isn't the best choice for a super high refresh rate, but it should still handle it pretty well. Main issue is way more latency both on RAM and core to core than Intel's ringbus stuff.

It all depends on what games you plan on playing and the settings. Sure you will reach 240FPS easily in esport titles like CS:GO, Overwatch, maybe you'll reach that in COD:MW with the right settings adjusted, just not in the most intensive AAA titles out there.

Also, just my two cents, but I wouldn't really spend that much on a TN monitor. Unless you're a literal pro and you don't do anything on your PC other than gaming, I think you'd get more for your money by going with an IPS monitor, preferably 1440p and maybe drop down to 144Hz, rather than 1080p 240Hz TN. Either way, it's totally your choice. For some good monitor reviews and overviews I'd look here: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/best/by-usage/gaming

Go for 1440p165hz, you'll get both image quality and more than enough refresh rate for any competitive gaming.

240hz is more placebo and gimmick than anything, besides the R7 3700X will struggle to achieve 240fps on pretty much any game still, for that many frames per second you'll definitely want the i7 9700K or i9 9900K.

Below you can have an idea of the gap there still is when the subject is maximum fps.

There are no 1440p 240hz monitors I am aware of. They’re all 1080p which makes 1440p @ 144hz about the same as 1080p@240hz power wise.  The only games that will run, or have any use running 240hz are low overhead esports games, and the advantage of 240 over 144 is apparently only useful at professional competition levels and only in these specific games.  The use for 240hz is very narrow.  I personally question the use of 144hz outside of those situations myself.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
