If i was you, Get a USB Stick and download windows its only a little watermark if using the pc. And if you don't want to do the USB Stick process, Or buy new windows key, There's lots of legit windows key sellers, Watch some YouTubers. I'm sure Linus made a video where he promotes a Windows Key Seller website.

I am on a 500 euro budget for this upgrade and Im upgrading the case, PSU, MOBO, RAM, and CPU so the motherboard and cpu were the best value to price choises...

I really dont have any experience with using a USB to store Windows on but I'll try. It just sucks that I have to download literally every game again its gonna take like 5 days.

I just don't see the 9400f as a big upgrade, since you alrady have a i7. Id either save up some more or go 3600 personally.

Why, can you explain?

If you don't there's a good chance it won't boot at all, and even if it does you'll run into issues with windows update or other stuff in the future.

I just wanna get rid of the 3rd gen CPU slot on my motherboard since I also need DDR3 ram for it.

why do you want to get rid of the old cpu? Is it too slow?

Nothing wrong with using a older cpu, those cpus still do pretty well today.

Aah I tought DDR3 and DDR4 had a big difference for performance, turns out it only effects the clockspeed. I'll just stick with a case and power supply upgrade.

I added a picture of my prebuilt rig (only GPU is new and I changed ram recently) I know the cable management is a nightmare but I hope you can tell how old my motherboard is.

Normally windows will install the needed drives with a hadware chnage. There can be issues, but I have done with many times, and windows 10 has gotten pretty good at this.

i agree with you in a part.

Windows can be installed and run and as you said Windows is getting a lot better handling driver issues.

But at the end of the day there will be a bunch of residues left that will probably slow down the PC

So you're saying that even if my motherboard is really old windows will just handle the driver issue?

It should,

But really I don't see a reason for your to upgrade, the performance jump isn't big with that buget, and your current case + psu work fine

1060 will be fine, If you want faster, id go 1660. Both are very low power cards.

I feel like a gpu upgrade is kinda overpowered for the games I play rn (gta5, overwatch, rainbow six siege, rocket league, assasins creed odyssey) only gta5 and assasins creed odyssey run below 100fps.
