No power in entire Houston but you have still 3G reception impresive:) then the antenes must be powerd by the other state or other plant.

I don't know about the entire city of Houston.  But when a transformer goes down, power lines, tree falls on the lines, etc.  That happens alot because here all the power lines and transformers are above ground.

 

Or if there is a scheduled outage, usually the whole city isn't down... just a subdivision while they work to repair whatever failed.

 

And in those cases, my Verizon hotspot feature on my Note II has always worked.

ok then i thought the entire city because cellphones only can have like max 30 to 50 kilometers of signal strength left on a flat land. Depends on the buildings metals and others (thats why citys have signal enhancers).... if you were living in NY when the storm hit 1 year or 2 years ago then you would not have been able to have signal.

Ah, that makes sense.  I live in far North Houston, far away from the downtown area.

That's why you put some music on your phone, that being said the longest I went without power was around 6 or so hours after a fairly decent earthquake. (7.2)

Uh... my power goes out all the time. Just light candles and put a fire in the fireplace (if you have one). Read a book, play a board game.

Power outages don't annoy me that much, it's when my landlord turns off the water for maintenance that annoys me more..

If people are this dependent on power I can see how society will fall apart if something bad happens and knocks out power for month...

If its night, take a dozen melatonin then fall asleep, lol, not really, ill write, or draw, or if im lucky my laptops charged I will play it to its dead. 

 

if its day go for a drive on my quad, or go for a walk around town.
