Hey all,

I saw a lot of options over the internet, but still was unable to successfully connect 2 pc.

My main idea behind it, to try and stream on second pc.

Before start doing so, I wanted to understand how to connect 2 pc.

Mind helping me with that!?

Thanks in advance.

Your question is albeit confusing, tho. But if you just want to make a direct LAN connection, the most simple but effective solution is directly connect your computers with RJ-45 cable. Just use the first PC as 'gateway PC' with 192.168.1.1 for the IP, and 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask, leave the default gateway as it is.

On the second PC, use 192.168.1.2 for the IP, subnet mask as like before, and fill 192.168.1.1 as the gateway.

It's way easier if you have a router, and just connect both PCs. IP will assigned automatically.

Humor me, as you should do.

Another solution would be to get a Ras Pi and a cheap switch then use DNSMasq on Raspbian to act as a DHCP server. This would cost more and is very complex to setup but its a more permanent solution.

ATM I'm experimenting with running SAMBA as a Windows Active Directory Domain Controller on my Ras Pi but its a nightmare to get working.

Main Rig:-

Ryzen 7 3800X | Asus ROG Strix X570-F Gaming | 16GB Team Group Dark Pro 3600Mhz | Corsair MP600 1TB PCIe Gen 4 | Sapphire 5700 XT Pulse | Corsair H115i Platinum | WD Black 1TB | WD Green 4TB | EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650W | Asus TUF GT501 | Samsung C27HG70 1440p 144hz HDR FreeSync 2 | Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS |

Server:-

Intel NUC running Server 2019 + Synology DSM218+ with 2 x 4TB Toshiba NAS Ready HDDs (RAID0)

It's worth noting that if he's working with Windows 7 or later (I can't verify older versions) that Windows has Self-Assignable addresses. When you directly connect two computers the PCs will receive an address automatically in the 169.254.X.X/16 range. If this is for a one off file transfer that's usually sufficient but if he wants to set this up for the long term then yes a Static IP on both machines would be preferred.

Also when using a P2P connection like this a Default Gateway doesn't need to be specified. ?

The popularly of doing this type of setup is why it's on my to-do list to write a short guide on it.

It sounds like OP is talking about a dual PC streaming setup.

To do that, you have a capture card in your streaming PC, you have HDMI from the "secondary" HDMI port on the GPU in your gaming PC to the IN port on the capture card in the stream PC, then on your gaming PC you configure it to duplicate your primary display to the secondary display

You can eliminate using a capture card and do a dual PC setup over IP with OBS, using OBS NDI: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/obs-ndi-newtek-ndi™-integration-into-obs-studio.528/ You just have to ensure that both PC's are on the same network.
