comex

Hey guys I was thinking about upgrading my i5 8600k with an new amd CPU but I have no idea what is an actual upgrade for me on amd side.

Right now my cpu is overclocking up to 5.2ghz and my graphic card is an gtx 1080.

What do you use your pc for?

The 8600k is a pretty good gaming chip if that's the use.

I once had a i5-8500 installed and still have a gtx 1080 like you...i upgraded to a 8700k...not for the clock speed, but for the threads...smooths out gameplay...and a small bump in fps.  If I could have found a non-k 8700 for less I'd have gotten that honestly.  The extra threads really do make things better...I don't contribute it to the clock speed at all.  That said you sound like an overclocker...lots of used and new-open-box 8700k on fleabay...$250-300 range.

Thanks for the reply guys I suppose my cpu is really good. But if I was to make a brand new system from scratch using amd cpu what would be an equivalent or better cpu.

ummm...honestly you'd be better off getting a 9900k if you want to upgrade for the sole purpose of gaming...it's got the IPC and threads to shred.  You already got a mobo for it...might have to update your bios?

for a whole new build, start with a r5 3600 depending on your budget, go with a x570 gigabyte motherboard, ram's important too since you are upgrading from a 8600k to notice a difference.

Wow r5 3600x really cheap it seems to me. I suppose I can actually go up 350 dollars for cpu though if ryzen cpus are this cheap
