im always wondering why  you buy a 1TB internal hdd for 100$ but can buy a 1TB external /w enclosure for 79.99. ive taken appart external hdds before and they are always regular 2.5 or 3.5in hdds inside. they come with an enclosure and cost less? would it be better to buy an external take it appart and install it internally then pay a 20$ mark up? im curious to hear everyone has to say on this cause im debating going cheaper or not. obviously the prices i mentioned are not accurate but you get my point.

most 1tb hdd's are usually like 60-65 usd and most enclosures are like 80 and all the enclosure really does is make it look nice and slot in perfectly to a usb to sata interface it doesnt really add that much cost

its GE (pause) TechNicks

my rig plus everything i have bought for it http://pcpartpicker.com/p/30sNV

Prices vary but external drives tend to cost more than internal ones...

They technically use the same drives but I've read that some hdd's used in external enclosures are from hdd batches that didn't match certain specifications because you wouldn't be able to tell the difference due to the bandwidth limit of usb 2.0, 3.0, etc.

Those cheaper External drives are usually 5900rpm not 7200rpm so don't think you're getting the same drive. External drives don't usually advertise this on the box so buyer beware.

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.

to be honest just get an internal one, they are usually better quality. you have to compare the same actual hdd. An internal wd black 1 tb will cost less than an external wd black drive from wd. Other vendors often put crap drives in external enclosures, and to be hones sata3 is just the best in terms of tranfer speeds... excluding maybe thunderbolt
