Can anyone recommend a good discrete combo unit that will sufficiently drive my akg’s.

Wow, that Fiio K5 Pro unit does look good, seems DSD capable DAC combos are fast becoming commonplace these days. Though, admittedly, DSD files are huge and not widely used by most. I have two DSD capable DAC combos (OPPO HA-1, iFi iDSD Micro Black Label) and a Gustard stack (seldom use). 'Grats on the Fiio purchase, a solid choice from the looks of it....
