New Build Recommendations

Hey guys, 

I'm planning to build my first pc soon and I'm wondering if these specs / parts are alright

I'm planning to play games at 1440p, high to max settings at decent frame rates as well as do things like light content creation / blender work

If any of you guys have any suggestions for things to change or add, feel free to comment

I've only build one pc myself, but why do people keep spending so much on memory kits?

 

Here's 16gb, ddr4, 3600hz. For 79$

Then get a 2080 super instead. My 2080 super cost even less than your 2070 super you shared for whatever reason.

I would recommend atleast an 750watts psu 

 

I think most 2070supers advertise a 700watt minimum at least. 

 

Also tho I don't know what you're planning to do with the machine if it is just gaming a 3600 or 3600x should be enough for the 2070super. 

Of course if you're doing productivity tasks the 3700x is a better choice. 

 

Also I'm not sure about pricing do to the difference in currency but I would say all of those items are very very expensive for what they are. 

In Germany an rtx 2070super is 400-500€ 

A b450mobo can be had for 100€ or less 

16gb 3200mhz Ram is also about 70€ 

4tb hdd about 100€

And a 750watt psu is maybe 80€

 

I think it should be white similar in dollars if you're shopping on the right sites

I forgot to clarify that this is in AUD, not USD

That's where that price difference comes from

I'm using a 9700k and a 2080 super on a 600w psu and its more than enough. PCpartpicker has the 3700x and the 2070 super only using around 280w.

That's quite unlikely since my laptop has a 9750h and a rtx2060 on a 200watts psu and the rtx 2060 actually needed to be clocked down to achieve the overall tdp.

Also tdp is not proportional to MHz since the rtx 2060 uses 90watts at 1200 but 160watts at 1600mhz 

 

the 650 could be enough ofcourse. But I think the manufacturer doesn't advertise 700 for no reason.

Manufactures tend to overclock their laptop CPU’s and GPU’s maybe that’s why you had an issue. But I can tell you from personal experience (not conjecture) that a 650w is enough. 
 

Also the nvidia user guide recommends a 650w psu not a 700w. https://www.nvidia.com/content/geforce-gtx/GEFORCE_RTX_2070_SUPER_User_Guide.pdf

Nvidia just locked the rtx 2060 mobile to 1200mhz for some reason imo just putting in 50watts more power would have been easier but yee kinda oftopic 

 

 

Nvidias recommendation is geared towards their founder edition card and since board partners always put in much more and higher rpm fans and also a good OC most of the time they go up a little for the recommended power. 

 

I'm not saying the 650 won't work just that it may be safer to go for the 700/750 also psu are most efficient at 50% so it can't hurt to have more wattage ^^

how much storage do you need?

you might be better getting a 500GB nvme M.2 drive for windows and a 2TB nvme m.2 drive for steam / games / work etc.

750W Gold or Platinum PSU will run more efficiently and make sure you have enough juice.

and if your using monitor for 3D work / professional drawing / CAD / editing etc then you might be better with the Asus PB278Q 2K IPS monitor, should be slightly better price.

Just stock, i don't have a real need to overclock
