Hey,
I need a dumb phone recommendation with the following requirements:

  • sim
  • durable
  • good battery life
  • no modern apps of any kind (e.g. facebook, twitter, whatsapp etc.)
  • no internet
  • no gps, gprs, edge, 3g, 4g

I only find dumb phones like the Punkt or Lightphone which are basic phones that cost $200 for some reason. The new Nokia 3310 isn’t a good option because it still has apps like facebook, twitter etc. I want a real dumb phone, no a pseudo-dumb phone with apps. I think I might resort to buying an actual older model. I don’t care about listening to music, or reading ebooks, or google maps or any of that bs. Just want a phone that I can charge once a week. Right now I am thinking about the Nokia 105, any thoughts on this or other similar modles?

Thanks.

Just buy any flip phone from 10 years ago and you'll be golden

the 105 runs an os that contains executables

in order to find a non os phone you'd have to run a totally different system like a satellite phone which typically only contains hardware. the only phone that have no software or runable problems would be hardware based but those hone wills be well over 20 years old.

Running some basic execs like snake or calendar is okay. What I don't want is twitter, facebook etc.

why not just buy a normal phone and not run those apps. my phone doesn't have twitter or facebook , i'd have to open a browser if i wanted that.

Depending on your courntry this might not be possible. Here in the US the BIG carriers are going to eventally drop support for anyting below 4G. There was a fuss about that because I think it was Verizon or AT&T who was going to maybe do it in the next year or two, they were saying anyone with a Flip phone would have to buy a new one because generally Flip phones only support up to 3G.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I bought a phone from 2019 without any of those techs. If they try to force me to buy another device I will either move to another country or stop using a phone. I am not in the US.

I don't think you need to panic about network switches.  This isn't strictly about forcing you to use data, it's about migrating services so that frequencies can be freed up for modern technology (both voice and data).  You can have an LTE phone without accessing the internet, for example.  As it stands, it's really a question of when your provider ditches tech below LTE, not if.

I have to ask, why are you worried about the mere presence of modern mobile apps?  Do you find yourself unable to resist checking them, or have some fear that the apps will spy on you simply by existing?  I don't mean to be rude, I just don't see a rational, evidence-based reason for wanting the apps gone completely instead of simply declining to install or use them (or, for that matter, disabling data/GPS).

With that said, if you absolutely can't bear the thought of apps or data, I would either get that Nokia 105 or be prepared to pay a premium for one of those other basics-only phones.  If you really value being cut off from the online world, what's some extra money to ensure that?
