Ryzen 7 2700 OC in an A320M-S2H V2 (B350 chipset)

Hello. So my question is: how safe would it be to do an slight OC (3,9-4,0 Ghz maybe?) to a Ryzen 7 2700 on an A320M-S2H V2 that has a B350 chipset? I'd use the stock heatsink, but I might get one if necessary.

If it's not safe at all, what is the cheapest motherboard that could support 2700 OC properly? I was thinking about the MSI B450 Gaming Plus MAX (+-80€ in Spain).

PSU: Corsair TX750M Gold Plus

if you get VRM heatsinks and keep using the downdraft included box cooler or a different high airflow downdraft cooler, maybe. 

 

otherwise just dont. 

 

do some memmory overclocking.

I have the same board. It has a B350 chipset.

Quick question. Is the 2700 running as well in term of performance as if it were in a b350 or b450 mobo?

Technically you can do whatever you want lol.  If it can do it, it can do it.  Especially if you properly mitigate the heat.

 

If you don't mitigate the heat...you may pop something as these cheap-o-depot boards don't have all the fancy failsafes I would assume.

 

If it were me - Yes, yes I would try to OC the ish out of it, on that board if that's what I had.  Make sure you have a fan on those VRMs!

Thank you for your tips. Honestly, it would be a a big loss to burn that motherboard. I got it for just $30 to test if I can run this ryzen 7 2700 with two broken off pins.

What about buying a VRM heatsink? If it's even possible, how do I have to choose it?

I get my aluminum (you can get copper there too) heat sinks off Ebay or Newegg.  Take some measurements and buy some heat sinks with pre-applied double sided adhesive thermal tape (so you don't have to buy that too) and apply them to the board.  Also if you are handy you can use your PCs rear exhaust fan, a small piece of metal bent to an L and create a bracket that will let you put a fan right above the heat sinks (blowing air down onto them, not pulling air away from them) to help keep them cool.

 

BUT, if it would be a big loss, I would not do it.

The A320 chipset has NO overclocking features beyond the stock boosting. 

 

Test the cpu, ditch the board. Get a B350 or B450 to have overclocking options available.

It is B350. It's the V2.

I has a B350 chipset and IS able to overclock. Got my 2400g to 3.9ghz

@ShrimpBrime is correct - B350 is the chipset.  The mobo itself however is a A320 motherboard.  They do not support OCing (google it)

 

However I just found a post on reddit about the latest updates unlocking that on an MSI A320 board.

Yea...... No.

You can overclock the memory. 

 

There are a couple of bios modders out there in the world I am aware that have unlocked features on certain B350 motherboards.... but nothing that makes it super special.

 

The best OC boards are actually itx, generally sport 6 VRMs opposed to the usual B350/450 boards that have only 4.

I own several AMD chipsets (going back many years in fact).....

 

My A320 Asus Prime + Ryzen 1400 does not have any CPU overclocking features whatso-ever besides memory overclocking.
