Router > Ethernet > (Advised Product) > WiFi Signal

Advice needed!

The main router (with main internet source) is over 200 feet away from the laptop that needs internet access. My plans are to run an ethernet cable from main source to laptop location. However, I want to produce a WiFi signal near the laptop and not connect the ethernet cable directly. is there a product that I can purchase which will take in an ethernet cable and produce a WiFi signal other than an actual router? Unless that's exactly what I need.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Wireless Access Point.  A wireless router is an access point + router, and can usually be switched to AP mode where routing functions will be handled further upstream by a separate router that does DHCP and DNS and such.

Unifi and EERO both do what you need with the added bonus of the full 200 feet being in range of the wifi.

This interested me so I looked up Unifi access points.  Msrp is $799. They’re apparently used in coliseums and stuff.

So it is.  Dramatically.  If the OP replaced his base router with one he might not need to run cable at all.
