hello all, i recently ordered nvme ssd for my msi z370 gaming plus motherboard. my motherboard called for a gen 3x4 2280 nvme drive. i ordered what was called for from a company called silicon power on amazon. i just attempted to install the drive and it’s to short to screw in and mount correctly. i know i will likely have to return the product but now i am stumped on what to do.

Is there no bracket with the motherboard?  Kinda puzzling that it would be a none-standard size, as usually the motherboards support all standard sizes.

Do you even have a standoff where you're trying to install it?

there are multiple holes in the motherboard that you would move the screw to.

$50 OP hasn't realised the stem and screw can be moved.

If you look at his other post on this same issue. He put a picture of his mobo up with the SSD and looks like he bought some funky size between 2242 and 2260

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

OP, can you take another picture of the SSD lined up with a ruler? Does it match any of these?

Your board definitely supports it:

STORAGE

Intel® Z370 Chipset

6 x SATA 6Gb/s ports1

1 x M.2 slot (Key M)

Support up to PCIe 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gb/s

Supports 2242/ 2260 /2280/ 22110 storage devices

Intel® Optane™ Memory Ready

The SATA1 port will be unavailable when M.2 SATA SSD has been installed in M.2 slot.

@Arika S well there goes $50 :D

@bigsmiley2014 I would move the stem over 1 spot, cut a 3cm square piece of thin plastic from a ice cream container or similar and screw that into the stem, that should stop the drive from poking up,if that fails you can tape that down? Using tape on its own will fail due to the heat softening the glue.

Have you tried pushing on the drive and booting the pc to ensure it shows up in the bios right?

Solved, the photo was at a shit angle so it looked like it didn't line up. Avoid double posting.
