Running a 'hub' from main PC over a network?

We have a new fairly high spec PC in our 'office' downstairs. I would like to keep that there and have a monitor, keyboard and mouse in my son's bedroom linked to the main PC downstairs to do his homework (Word, Excel maybe browse the internet). 

 

Is it possible to do this cheaply linking it to the main PC with a hub or very cheap PC? As you can tell I don't have a clue....

don't think theres really a simple or cost effective way to do it (not that i know of)

 

If all your son needs in his bedroom is to do some word processing and internet browsing etc, sounds like a basic system with an athlon 3000G will be enough, or picking up a used dell optiplex or something.

You  buy a refurbished computer for less than 100$ , then get a monitor, keyboard and mouse

Setup a cheap computer in your son's bedroom (Could even be a Raspberry Pi) that you can use remote desktop from. You will have to enable remote desktop access on your high end office PC, but that is fairly easy to setup with some time spent on Google.

Use a KVM?

You can use that to share key board and mouse control.

 

You can use super long hdmi cable for separate monitor and mirror your display to a monitor upstairs.

 

Hdmi spec allows cables upto 50ft
