For anyone else in higher level math, is there anything other than Wolfram to use to check answers or see where you've made a mistake? Solutions manual is out of the question since my professor often assigns evens or makes his own up.

It turns out they're charging 5$ for the pro membership and now have removed the "show steps" function completely from the limited amount of solutions they granted before.

I'm doing some integrals that are a pain in the ass and now Wolfram is nothing but a glorified calculator if you're not paying 5$ a month. It's not that much, but it's kind of frustrating that they'd remove the feature and demand that you pay for it. I wouldn't mind sitting through a few ads now and then or even answering a survey.

You could maybe try Graph 4.4

http://www.padowan.dk/download/

It does integrals.

Welp I'm dumb. You need something that shows steps.

Does it give the method? Because that's all I really care for

I just break down the equation and do it that way since it gives you the answer for each step?

what do you mean?

Can't really break these down.

It gives nothing but the answer.

Sorry I totally forgot about that part. No it doesn't.

download the APK on your phone. its the best way. i used wolfram the first day it came out couple years ago. now its total money whore shit

I thought of that already, apparently the app also disables integral solutions unless you have a pro account

which begs the question what does the app even do

I get that they need to make money, but taking away features for that is really not something that looks good.

calc 2, trig subs and partials that get tricky when they mash like 3 forms of integration in one problem.

and my professor makes up some Frankenstein looking problems.  <_<

I'm kinda bored, so if you want, I can explain all the steps. I've been in that class twice, and trig sub has been an important integration technique in diff eq so far. Got an A both times. Took once in hs and once in college. But yeah... feel free to post here!

so they changed it even more. i get the APK from the browser because i didnt want to pay $6 and it unlocked all the features. this sucks

Thanks for the offer, I'll definitely bother you if I have something I can't brute force my way through

How much worse is 3 and differentials?

Np. Didn't take 3, as I'm a Comp. Eng. major, but I have friends who have, and, well, triple integrals, integrating with 2+ variables, etc. Not many truly new concepts, but a hell of a lot more work. Diff eq is easy so far, just went through seperable and first order linear, which are in calc, and second order, and homogenous. If you can get a grip on re-arranging equations and know enough differentiation/integration to survive calc 2, you'll be fine

So you are asking me how I get my math done?

I'm confused. I've never used anything but M/D & A/S on the forums.

I'll be honest with you, I've been in Calculus 1 twice. I failed both times because I didn't do the work/show up to class. This has everything to do with how I felt about school at the time, rather than my lack of ability. I passed Business Calculus because my teacher was awesome and it was a small community college.

So I can teach you how to do your taxes (the math part) and find out how long it will take you to pay off a loan and what you'll save by choosing one over another. (Disclaimer: After I do a refresher on it.)

But I don't have anything on Calculus in general. Even trying to remember my classes hurts my head, not because the math did, but because, for some reason, I keep deleting them from my memory. Not sure why.

Sorry. :|

If you showed me a problem, I'd probably recognize it, but I wouldn't remember what to do to answer it. Mainly because my method to math is problematic. I don't "do" the concepts or the reasons. I memorize steps and follow them. I lack the ability to understand the "why" of it, or what the things represent.

It takes a lot for me to "get" that part of it, and then I actually have learned it. So the way school works (1 week to [insert Topic]) isn't conducive to my permanent learning system. I usually only learn math long enough to use it. Then it goes into my recycle bin in my mind if I don't keep using it and I never got the "why".

Which has really screwed up my ability to learn math.

So you just want to check if your solution of an integral is correct? You can do this easily with differentiating.

If you need help with a specific thing just post it on the forum. I should also be able to help. (Second year university studying maths)

Not quite. Deriving won't help when you're not sure what went wrong in some of the more hairy problems that require something like partial decomposition and trig subs. Tracing two pages of work for an error is almost so inefficient I'd pay for wolfram and I'm sure nobody wants to do these for fun.

You can always use a CAS to do the work for you. Or just write down the solution and say you've guessed it ;) (I know that's not enough)

Also for definite integrals you can use numerical integration (which is used in most practical situations).

I'm sure that I know somebody who'd do this for fun (one of my profs), but for this person every second he doesn't spent with maths is wasted.

Your best free solution would be to just work together with somebody from your class.

@helping

Mathematica doesn't show steps AFAIK, but it does solve integrals, yes. If your school can provide a license (I know mine did) then go ahead and try it. If you are unsure, you can send me some integrals to have a look at.
