Hi guys,

Been trying to sort this issue out for a while with no success. My PC is making a faint knocking sound. Sounds like a clock ticking faintly and it's doing my head in. I've changed the front fans out with different ones and each time the sound persists. It's not my HDD and is not coming from my GPU. Could this be a sound coming from my CPU cooler (NZXT X42) or possibly an issue with my SSD. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

CJ

What pump profile do you have set on the AIO?

Asetek pumps tick on quiet mode.

can you pinpoint where in the case the sound is coming from?

is the sound "rythmical"? how long are the pauses between the "knoks"?

the only things i could imagine, since you ruled out all your fans and your HDD, are your AIO-pump or your PSU.

It's probably your HDD.  Tried removing it and check if the noise is gone?

My SEAGATE Barracuda sounds like a mixture between coffee machine and coffee grinder,  so I can definitely see someone describing as "faintly ticking clock" as it would still fit.

Note: my Toshiba SSHD doesn't make these noises at all,  just occasionally normal, as I would describe it "HDD sounds"

So did you actually remove your HDD (brand?)  to check?

  • 9 months later...

So I found out the source of the issue. Basically it was my AIO. I'm now running a X62 in a new ITX build and I had the same issue. I had the rad mounted with the tubes at the top. Flipping it around solved the issue. Thanks for your help and sorry for the lack of responses lol.
