Loud PSU fan

Yongtjunkit

Hi, This PSU fan seems for some reason to make loud fan noise especially during startup and accidental knocking on the case

if the PSU requires replacement, just to double confirm, this is a 500W PSU right ?

It says 192W 12V rail.

Fan slot probably 80 and 92mm. Hard to tell from pic only but you can always measure it.

The PSU says max 21A on the single 12V rail, but also max 192W on 12V ?

Anyway, it's absolute garbage and should be replaced.

You should check the manual of the case to see what fan sizes are supported.

:)

Well my uncle paid someone to build his pc and most likely either didn’t get any manual or misplaced it

regarding about the PSU that’s what I thought as well, is the cooler master MWE 500W a suitable replacement ?

the total power max is 500W written on the PSU

Whoever build that pc for you, they definitely cheap out on psu, I wouldn’t recommend even keeping it as a door stopper...
Anyway, depends whats your spec I would recommend looking for some new psu from tier B+ at least from our list

While I was doing research at my local retail store I’ve noticed that Corsair and cooler master has similar features with different prices and seems like to be in the same PSU tier. Any idea why Corsair psu in the following picture are more expensive ? 9DC06DF0-2547-423D-95E8-53879270D249.thumb.jpeg.f7c76144b42123887a64f2784ed1dcd0.jpeg

likely just luck... even if the two are internally different, they're similar in performance

though, as shown above, cx over both

yes you should change your PSU because its low quality and a potential fire risk , but you dont need a 500w PSU   with those system specifications , do you plan on buying a new GPU ? if not then look for a lower wattage model from the tier list

I think changing the PSU is a good idea BUT for your config, I would suggest to buy a used well known good brand one.

  • 2 weeks later...

So I've just watched this video, and 81CB15AD-9536-4416-B8B7-3D33234C46C3.thumb.jpeg.ffdf109cc0c2384bfde81d226f0aa8d8.jpeg

From this picture it says total power(max):500w
Does that mean peak power?

It means: "No-one would buy a crappy 250W power supply so let's just lie and call it a 500W so we can trick people into buying it"

Why does it say +12V 21A but +12V 192W max? :S That doesn't add up. 12V 21A is 252W. 192W max on 12V would be only 16A.

Quick google search shows it selling in Malaysia for between $8-$11 USD. At least it comes with a free power cable. ?

"Micro ATX" is wrong, but if the dimensions listed there are correct then the power supplies you were looking at won't fit in your case. 125mm (W) x 63mm (H) x 100mm (L) are the dimensions for SFX size PSUs. A standard ATX power supply won't fit in the case.

ATX PS/2 (standard power supplies like the ones you were shopping for) are 150mm (W) x 86mm (H) x ≥140mm (L)

Ah, so maybe that kinda explains in 1 month the PSU fan decided to make loud fan noise for like 5 minutes and the system builder kinda swept it under the carpet( basically the system builder said it's quiet when he have it for diagnostic)?

Also to tell the continueous is from the +12V rails X the xxamps ? Also how to tell if it's a poor/terrible PSU other than from the looks? I can tell that this PSU is terrible from the looks only and based on what I was told about the fan issue

Not a good idea to buy second hand psu, you never known what other person was doing with it and if that not gonna cause some problems. Usually ppl selling psu if there is some problem with it or they are old enough they need a upgrade.
