Should I apply some new thermal paste?

magicammo

I have a zotac GTX 1080 mini and I've always had issues with it over heating and I just assumed it was due to the small enclosures I had it in. Well that doesn't seem to be the case no pun intended haha. I just upsized my build and this thing is still hitting 83c with the fans maxed. Should I reapply some thermal paste or what I've seen reviews of this card hand in larger cases people are getting temperatures around 60 c my case has open airflow too lol

How old is it? And have you made sure the fans are spinning right and it’s all clear of dust?

Wow, that is pretty dang hot for 100% fan speed. I would almost question if there is an issue with it and an RMA is in order. You can certainly try and change the past out, but 83c at 100% fan is pretty hot, its not dangerously hot, but I am very surprised its that warm with that fan speed.

Its possible the heat sink is not mounted very well? Could be slightly loose? If your got a new card from an RMA, it likely was a return. Its just pretty strange its running that hot. What clock speed does it boost to?

I've only ever seen it get a little over 1900 but right when it hits that 80c it drops to 1840 sometimes lower

Clocks are within normal numbers. Weird... I mean, you can certainly try new thermal paste. Maybe that will fix it. I would go with something non-conductive.

Thermal Grizzly is pretty much the best out there.

Thermal Grizzly is best but tbh any high quality thermal paste will be good. I’m using Noctua NT-H2 on my gpu and it’s keeping temps really nice.

If you read reviews about SD cards on amazon you would think every SD cars they sell is a fake as well...

It’s true, sometimes people object fake products into the supply chain, or buy and return things with fake stuff as the return, or employees swap out parts for fake stuff somewhere behind the scenes. There was a time Newegg was selling i7’s with a printer picture of a CPU in the intel box, and I have received plastic ponchos in DDR4 boxes from amazon before. This is possible from anywhere, but it’s very unlikely.
