Can I use a 6 pin PCI-E on my gtx 1660ti?

I just bought a gtx 1660ti but realized that my power supply only had a 6 pin PCI-E cord and the 1660ti requires a 8 pin. Is there anything I can do without upgrading my power supply or damaging my card??

BTW my power supply is a cooler master 500 watts

In theory, you could get a Molex to 8-pin connector, but that can be pretty risky and is generally advised against.

@Crunchy Dragon why would it be advised and what are the risks?

Cable melts as the molex cable isn't meant to carry the high current required for graphics cards. Only have a single 12v wire on molex vs the 3 on PCIe. Often molex will have thinner wire gauge than PCIe cables as well. Plus the adapters themselves can often be of poor quality.

I'd recommend replacing the power supply. That unit is quite bad.

Good quality 550w psu will be more than enough. Corsair TX or RM series will be great choice, if you want to go a bit more budget CX series

Maybe one of the following: Corsair CX-450, CX-450M, CX-550, CX-550M or Seasonic S12III

Eeeeeh nah. CX (2017) lineup is great. CXM is solid, but an older design, and you can get a CX for the same/less so just get the CX because it's a better CPU.

The M12II/S12II are pretty fucking terrible nowdays, they were decent uh.... 10, 12 years ago?

I see an S12III on Seasonic's site, no M12III and even Google can't find a single mention of it.

Is that because of increased standards or decreased quality? I remember when people used to call them SafeSonic.

The fact that it's an incredibly old design AFAIK. Same as how a car from the 60s that was well reviewed at the time is probably horrible compared to even low end modern cars for safety.

The S12III has lots of reports of a bad coil whine.
