Do I need to reinstall drivers if both cards use the same one?

DobertRownySr

I'm about to replace my 2080Ti with a GTX 690 (testing purposes)
But they both support 441.66.

Is there any reason to DDU the drivers? Before swapping the cards?

Doesn't hurt to do a DDU, doesn't take too long.

But in all honestly, you would probably be fine not doing it either. Doesn't look like there is tech that isn't available on the GTX 690 that is on the RTX card (perhaps RTX stuff and DirectX 12 stuff). It's possible these new(er) tech stuff is not included in the current driver for the GTX 690.

Also.. GTX 690.. I see we have a man of culture here!

The only reason I ask, I was looking on the Nvidia website and for all I could tell, it appears to be the exact same driver. I even downloaded it by searching for both 2080Ti and the 690, and windows claims it was a duplicate download.

Anyways, I will install the 690 and report my findings when I do.

I am writing from the 690, and no. The drivers do not carry over. I will DDU and install the latest 690 one.

EDIT: A minute after writing this post, windows or nvidia detected the GPU and the work fine without needing to DDU.
