What's a good mouse that will last 10+ years?

18358414

Today my Logitech M100 mouse broke.  It's lasted me about 6 years or so, and if I had a replacement USB cable it would probably last me even longer.  I'm back to using a trackball mouse from the 90s.  If I am to buy a new mouse, what's a good one that will last a good long time while maintaining ease of cleaning?

If I have to explain every detail, I won't talk to you.  If you answer a question with what can be found through 10 seconds of googling, you've contributed nothing, as I assure you I've already considered it.

What a world we would be living in if I had to post several paragraphs every time I ask a question.

anything wired would be reliable enough

My last mouse was a Logitech m100 (wired); the wire is really cheap and thin though which is why it broke.

Most decent mice come with braided cables now.

Logitech has 2-3 year warranty on most of their items so you should be safe.

What mouse you get is kinda up to you, depending on what grip you use, how big your hand is etc.

It depends who you are. I have $5 cheapo mice that are 15+ years old that work fine... But I also have my origional game boy headphones and they still work, so YMMV

6+ years is good for Logitech and that's probably on the low/unlucky end of things. I'd go with Logitech again I have not had a single peripheral from them break yet and I dunked my keyboard in water...twice.

swap out the cable

That sparks an interesting idea... before I throw down for a mouse I'll just re-solder the old one with a PS2 cable and see if that gets it working again.  That way I don't have to re-learn the mouse weight.

If a Logitech M100 lasted you six years, a Logitech G502 Hero will last you for at least 20 or more.

I also had a Logitech M100 for about 10 or so years (it still works perfectly, I might add) before I decided to get an upgrade. I bought the G502 Hero  as an upgrade two months ago, and it is fantastic. The mouse is built like a tank. You can use it for home defense, and reliably go back to using for its intended purpose right afterwards with zero damage to the mouse other than maybe a few stains.

The only downside for you might be its large size, and heavy weight. Both are easily worked around as I have medium sized hands, but I was able to use the mouse very comfortably after the first two days.

The price for the G502 SE is also only $30 currently. It may seem like a huge jump in price after using a $10 mouse for so long, but it's a $30 mouse that will most likely last you five times longer than the M100. That alone screams cost efficiency.

I've never had a mouse that lasted 10 years. I have some older ones that lasted 3-7 years, but they don't work so well now and is kept around as a poor backup or extra parts.

Your best bet is Microsoft, Logitech or Corsair

Granted Corsair hasn't been in the field long enough to really compare but according to rocket jump ninja on youtube they have solid build quality and I would have to agree.  I've been using my m65 pro for a few years and have a few mice that are sitting in my closet because I don't like them as much.  But the build quality is solid and that m65 has a solid sensor.

mx master/anywhere series?
wireless means you won't have problems with wire wear, tho you'll have problem with the battery, but they're easily change-able?

or get one of those gaming mouse with detachable wires, if it break, just replace it
